12.Victoria Falls
| Still I am daydreaming on this marvellous natural creation I visited number of years back on my pleasure trip to Zimbabwe with my wife and daughter, when I was working in Zambia.
The observers are just opposite the flowing river at the same level of natural ground as that of the river. The rocky bed of river Zambezi is fractured widely perpendicular to the flow throughout and shifted apart, making huge volume of flow to fall vertically down about 100 meters into Zambezi gorge. Water falls down and sprays up towards clouds as tiny droplets of water, appears as a smoke with a thundering sound, heard and visible from a distance of around 50 km. This compelled local dwellers to name Victoria falls as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” having the meaning of “the smoke that thunders”. The viewers should be ready to get wet at anytime, since there are instant heavy rainfalls. This may be due to formation of rain clouds fast, since the spraying of water droplets is continuous or may be returning the same spray back to earth due to climatic changes. The closed by city has been named as Livingston and the statue shown above is that of David Livingston, erected closer to Victoria falls as a monument to remark his distinguished finding. In front of this statue are the publisher of this website, with his wife at the left end and daughter in the middle. |

The falls, which was hidden in thick jungle was first discovered by David Livingstone in 1860’s.One of the main distinguished features of Victoria Falls is instead of looking up to observe the fall, one has to look down to watch how it falls down.
