16.My First Site Accompanying Neeta

Though my wife Neeta is now dead and no more with me, daydreaming about our past offers me some sort of relief to my mind. I know, if daydreaming persists beyond certain limit preventing other activities, it will be a mental sickness for which a Psychologist is to be consulted. Thanks God! I have not reached such limit yet and I hope I will never.

So coming back to my drem world, I have a lot to think, write and record.

My first work site accompanied Neeta was Mahiyangana nearly 200 km away from Colombo – the capital of Sri Lanka.

Route to Mahiyangana from Colombo was a memorable pleasure trip for us, passing Kandy – one of the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanka, through Hunnasgiriya on narrow, winding roads with steep down slope with 18 knuckles, which were those days acute angled bends through which vehicles cannot pass without reversing number of times.

Thick jungle on both sides of the road, locations of high wind passes , wide stretchers of valleys and plains of green pastures and huge irrigation tanks visible in deep down dales were unforgettable scenery which would retain in mind for ever.

Our site was in a teak garden by the bank of famous Mahawali river. Every evening we had river bath and went for evening walk on lonely paths viewing natural beauty and certain days we visited Dambana – a village in forest of veddas the forest dwellers who are indigenous inhabitants of Sri Lanka.
