31.Innocent And Easy Life Style In Past

Though there were some families in the past, facing continuous disturbances due to addiction of land lord to liquor or gambling or casual love affairs of either party or merely due to poverty, other families generally enjoyed peaceful, happy lives irrespective of their low earnings. They were ready to satisfy with what they got without grumbling or without daydreaming for what they were not getting.

There were enough children in neighbouring houses to gather in the evenings after school, to form two teams to set for any national game. Those days they had enough leisure time and enough land area too, to participate any major activity. But nowadays whether good or bad, no such large number of children because all the elders are wishing small families, no such leisure time because of enlarged syllabuses and therefore even the children in Gr. 3 have to do homework closer till midnight and no such land area to gather and play because of increased population.

Those days our parents also had reserved time for their pleasure. Women were having societies for religious and social activities. Men had groups to get together and chat or to play cards hours and hours in weekends.

At least once a year, they arranged trips of bus load to visit Anuradhapura, Polonnoruwa, Sigiriya or any other historical places such as ruined fortresses and palaces of ancient kings and pilgrimages to renowned Madhu and Thalawila catholic shrines.

Every thing is revolved today. Irrespective of tremendous development, all are always busy. 24 hours a day is not sufficient to fulfil all the needs. All are trying hard to earn money, more and more to meet heavy expenses.

Who knows when and how this struggle will come to an end?
