17.Badulla – The City In Valley

Another work site we enjoyed thoroughly was Badulla, one of the main cities after passing up-country when coming from Colombo. This is situated in a huge valley surrounded by range of hills, most of which are covered with tea plantation. Elevation of Badulla city is around 600 metres above mean sea level. Therefore the climate is moderate, neither cool nor hot.

My site was adjoining Badulla Stream, called Badulu Oya in Sri Lankan Language. This stream is originated from one of the hills in the vicinity.

Charming sites are immense in hilly areas, visible when treading winding roads built on outskirt of hills. Such commendable one is Spring Valley Road which can be viewed from the bank of Badulu Oya in Hindagoda area, running at a higher elevation on the side of Rock Hill.

Closed by water falls worth seeing are Dunhinda on Mahiyangana Road, Ravana Ella on Ella – Wellawaya Road off Bandarawela and Diyaluma at Koslanda on Beragala – Wellawaya Road.
